Understanding Ideal Weight
About the Formulas:
- Robinson: Most commonly used in clinical settings
- Miller: Tends to give slightly higher values
- Devine: Originally created for drug dosage calculations
- Hamwi: One of the oldest and simplest formulas
- BMI-based: Uses healthy BMI range (18.5-24.9)
Limitations:
- These formulas don't account for muscle mass
- Athletes and bodybuilders may have higher healthy weights
- Doesn't consider age, bone density, or body composition
- Use as a general guide, not a strict target
Determining Frame Size:
- Wrap thumb and middle finger around wrist at narrowest point
- If fingers overlap: small frame
- If fingers just touch: medium frame
- If fingers don't touch: large frame
